Today ( Nov 20, 2018 ), I did what a lot of people did. I searched for “Facebook Down” and found that yes, indeed … Facebook was down.
I didn’t spend any time wondering why or worrying about if they will fix it. We know they will. I just found myself incredibly grateful that I have focused most of my marketing efforts on building my list. I logged in to my TrafficWave account and sent out a broadcast to prospects. Within minutes, sales started coming in.
I’m a big fan of social media. I use it daily. But, we as have seen, events like “Facebook Down” can happen. If your marketing efforts are all focused on a particular social media channel, an event like this can bring your marketing to a dead stand-still.
This is the sort of event I had in mind when I wrote List Building Or Social Media. I’m not against social media in any way. I just know that, no matter what happens to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.. when I have my own targeted email list of interested prospects, I can continue building my business while the social media tech team works to resolve Facebook Down as quickly as they can.
We hope Facebook has a complete and speedy recovery so we can all get back to that marketing channel along with funny memes, videos, and good times.
In the meantime, If you haven’t already done so, I highly recommend setting up your capture forms, capture pages, and driving traffic to build your targeted lists of prospects. Then, the next time we see “Facebook down”, we can just switch our focus to sending a broadcast out to our existing lists while they social media tech team scrambles to bring their systems back online.
