Why Email Marketing Makes Sense for Network Marketers
Let’s take a look at why email marketing makes sense for network marketers. The biggest challenge faced by network marketing professionals, new and seasoned alike, is finding people to talk to. The traditional method of burning up the phone lines is still very effective but very challenging, especially to someone new to the industry.
Some of the top producers in network marketing still present this as their “go to” method of prospecting and building their business. And it absolutely DOES work. The big challenge is helping that new distributor get over the fear of that “900 pound beast”, making a list, and then dialing the numbers.
Why? We fear rejection. And, if you can overcome that fear, the phone can truly be your best friend. Over the years, I have made lists, dialed for dollars, invited folks to hotel meetings, invited folks over to the living room, and used a variety of techniques to present my business opportunity to prospects. And each of these approaches has had varying ranges of success. Some said “yes”. Some said “no”.
But something I added to the mix is email marketing, using autoresponders. This method has also been very successful for me. This is why I believe email marketing makes sense for network marketers.
I STILL talk to people face to face. I’m a “people person” and I tend to find it very easy to talk to people, friends and strangers alike. As with my traditional prospecting methods, some say “yes”. Some say “no”. That’s how our business works.
So why should you use email marketing in your network marketing business?
I could just tell you, “Because it works”. And I’ve got the proof to back it up. I have been receiving ongoing residual income for years. I drive a black Mercedes that is part of a car bonus program. I get to enjoy a lifestyle that does not include showing up at someone else’s office to build their dreams. And all of this happened from using email marketing strategies along with some of the more traditional strategies.
Let’s get in to some of the details about why email marketing makes sense for network marketers.
The internet is here to stay. People are more likely to search online for information, these days, than ever before. I see people on Facebook asking for advice or recommendations about medical issues, internet services, favorite coffees, weight loss tips, etc… The smart network marketing professional can reply with a simple, “Sure, I can help you with that.” and provide a quick link to get more information.
Right now, while you are looking at this article, people are online looking for information about making money from home, starting a home based business, losing weight, dealing with a health issue or just trying to solve some sort of problem they have.
If your product or service can help them with any of these issues, it makes sense to have your web site online so people can find you.
Your web site should have a capture page that offers free information, a download, a sample … whatever is relevant to your offer. When someone visits your site, they can fill out the form to request your information, sample, etc… and that is when email marketing starts.
Once they fill out that form, they are added to your email marketing list. Now, you can follow up with them. You can send them links to online video presentations, PDF’s, ebooks, etc… so that they can learn more about your offer and your opportunity. They can review your information any time, day or night.
When your company runs a promotional special, offers a discount, has special offers, etc… you can send an announcement to your list with the click of a button.
And, yes … you can even use your email marketing list to invite people to local presentations. I’ve used my lists to invite people in my area to my presentations. When one of my team leaders is doing a presentation in another state or even in another country, I can let any of my subscribers in those areas know about the presentation. All of this is available to you through email marketing.
In my own experience, I’ve been able to have prospects meet with team leaders on the East Coast here in the US, and even in Nigeria or Kenya when I had team leaders in their area. How did I meet these prospects? They subscribed to my list when they asked for information about my product or opportunity via my capture page. Because I had been following up with them, and they were starting to feel like they could trust me, they were willing to go and meet with one of my team leaders in person.
Here’s the best part: When someone has been receiving your information, you’ve had a few conversations, and they go to personally meet with your or your team leader, it’s almost a done deal that they have decided to join with you.
Using the company web site is not effective. Most network marketing distributors think internet marketing is simply a matter of posting links to their company web site. This is where a lot of distributors miss the mark. Company sites are great for general information. But if you really want to build YOUR identity, reinforce YOUR brand, and build YOUR team (and you should), you need to have your own web site or blog.
Why? A lot of network marketing companies will not allow you to run ads using their company name. This makes sense for a LOT of reasons. It makes sense for you to promote YOUR name. Some of the top network marketing distributors using internet marketing are not promoting their company name. They are promoting their own name.
I’ll give you some examples:
http://www.fortunenow.com is a web site run by “Big Al”. I’ve had the opportunity to meet with and chat with “Al” over the years and he provides some solid training, great books, etc… He is an outstanding network marketing professional. You would need to really dig in to his content to see which company he is promoting. If you visit his web site from the link in the beginning of this paragraph, you will see a form right on the front of his site offering a free report. When folks visit his site and fill out that form, they are added to Big Al’s list. He can follow up with them over and over again and there is no issue with him using a particular company’s name in his ads. You can bet that if someone wants to work directly with Al, they can certainly ask him about his company. No company has a problem with that approach.
http://rayhigdon.com is another great example. Ray Higdon is a network marketing trainer and leader. His site, like Al’s site has a form right on the front page, offering information about how to get more leads for your network marketing business. You can bet Mr Higdon is involved with a specific company but his content and marketing are all about building and promoting HIS name. That’s just smart network marketing.
Both of these are solid examples of network marketing leaders using email marketing to build their prospect lists.
Leverage your exposure. Nobody likes to talk about it but we know it happens. Companies fail. Companies change. If you have your own list of folks with whom you have been building rapport and trust via your email marketing, your chances of success during these transition times go up considerably.
And we all know someone who has switched companies. If you don’t have an email marketing list, you really are starting all over if your company fails or you decide to make a change. Having an email marketing list doesn’t guarantee that everyone is going to move with you or follow you, but if you have built and nurtured a solid reputation with your list, it makes sense to believe that at least some of those subscribers are going to check out what you are doing.
The Power of Duplication. Another reason email marketing makes sense for network marketers is the ability to support, train, and educate your downline. As people join your business, they can subscribe to your training campaign. This makes it much easier to communicate with you team no matter where they are in the world.
