Build and Manage Your Own List

When you build and manage your own list, you have control. If the business you are with makes big changes, you can pivot with new copy, new offers, and new direction by reaching out to the list you own.

A scenario I see far too often is when someone decides to give up on list building because the company they were working with either went out of business or made changes that caused the distributor to no longer be associated with that company.

A few weeks or months later, they find a business that is more in line with their goals and decide to get going, again. The challenge is that they have lost momentum. They stopped communicating with their existing leads and they hadn’t been generating new leads.

This is a big reason it is critical that you build and mange your own list. And by “manage”, I mean build rapport. Build relationship. Let your subscribers get to know you. When changes come (and they often do) you can simply let your subscribers know that things have been happening and you may be going in a new direction. You may be surprised at how many of them tell you, “Ok … let me know what direction you take.” or something similar.

This is one of the reasons I say list building is like building an online ATM. When you build a good list and nurture a strong relationship, it doesn’t really matter what “they” do. You can pivot and point your arrows in a new direction to continue pursuing your business goals.
