Let’s look at a few examples:
Who Owns The List? You join a company that offers you what they refer to as an “all-inclusive” system for promoting their offer. They even provide a follow up autoresponder with pre-written letters. Sounds good, right? You get to work driving traffic to the capture page and generating leads. As long as the company stays in business, you may be doing just fine. But if something goes south … the company folds or you decide to go in a different direction, your list is gone. The company owns the list.
Who Owns The List? You join a “team build“. The team leader wants you to promote the “team capture page”. You think, “Well, that seems easy. I don’t have to set up my own capture page. I’m in!” You drive traffic to the team capture page. The leads you generate through your promotion are not yours. They are controlled by the team leader. The team leader owns the list.
Who Owns The List? You get started in your business. Maybe you’ve joined a company that has pre-written letters. Maybe you’ve joined a team build. Maybe you’ve partnered with an affiliate program. Maybe you opened a Shopify store or created your own product. Good for you! Now, build your own capture page and generate your own leads.
What if the company you joined goes under or has to make big changes that could have a negative impact? You still have your list. If you need to make changes, you can promote to your list quickly because you own the list.
What if your team leader bails? If you own your own list, you can keep right on promoting. YOU can be your best team leader.
What if you find a new offer that you think would be interesting to your subscribers? If you own the list, you can send that offer out to your subscribers because you own the list.
When Chase Swift finds an offer that would be of interest to his photography and videography subscribers, he is able to put his promotion together and send the offer out because he owns his list.
