“The Money Is In The List” is a phrase you are probably at least familiar with. But is it true? What does this really mean? Is this just something the big gurus say or is there real truth to the saying?
The simplest way I can think of to break this down is this: If you build a solid list, and build a solid relationship with the people on that list, you can expect to make money. Give this just a bit of thought. If you have a list of people who have said, “I want to hear what you have to say.” or “I want to learn from you”, doesn’t list just make sense to realize the money is in the list?
This is why so many successful online marketers focus so much of their effort on building their lists. They know the money is in the list so when they run their ads, their first goal is to get subscribers on their lists.
The key is to really focus not just on building a list but building a relationship with the people on the list. While there are all sorts of offers out there that promise to build your list with a “gazillion” subscribers, the thing you want to focus on is making sure you have a list of people that actually WANT to be on your list and are genuinely INTERESTED in what you have to say.
This starts by paying attention to how you build your list to begin with. You should be driving any and all traffic to a capture page that offers visitors an incentive to be on your list. This could be a free report, a tutorial, an ebook, a sample, etc… something that is tied to your offer and gives a visitor enough reason to give you their email address.
Once they are on your list, the rapport building starts. This is where you spend some time letting your readers get to know you and HOW YOU CAN HELP THEM.
Always focus on benefits. The first question in a visitor’s mind is: “What’s in it for me?” Show that visitor what they can expect by subscribing to your list. THEN … DELIVER what you promised! If you promised a download, a report, tips, solutions .. make sure your messages deliver on that promise. This way, your readers begin to see that they can trust you to do what you said you would do.
When they feel like they know you, and can trust you, they will be more likely to buy from you.
This is why successful online marketers believe the money is in the list. They build that list and build relationships with the people on that list so that when the time comes to send an offer to the list, those subscribers are more likely to buy.
