When you fill out that form on a company’s web site, there are a few things that happen:
1) You receive the report, pdf, sample, call, invitation, download, etc… that you asked for.
2) You are added to that company’s email marketing list.
Have you ever filled out a form to receive discounts and special offers from a favorite restaurant? That restaurant is using email marketing to stay in touch with you, send you offers, coupons, etc… to keep you coming back in. When you filled out that form, you were entered in to their email marketing database.
Have you ever filled out a form on a web site for one of your favorite bands? They offered to send you free updates on upcoming concerts, events, new releases, etc… right? You are now in their email marketing database.
These are good examples of how email marketing works and, hopefully, you are seeing how your business can benefit from doing the same thing.
If your business has a product to sell, a service to provide, information to share, you should be using email marketing. Your web site should have a form that lets you offer samples, information, etc… in exchange for visitors giving you their name and email address.
