Creating Your Sales Funnel
Creating your sales funnel is a good starting point. Managing your sales funnel is critical to your success. You have started your business and you are very excited. Maybe you’re just getting ready to launch a new marketing campaign for your existing business. You keep hearing about these amazing success stories about folks who have figured out how to make money online. You see their articles. You see the pictures. Maybe you even personally know someone who is making money online.
So you make the decision to get started. You pick or start a company with a product or service you can get excited about. The excitement and expectation is keeping you awake at night. You are going to make SO MUCH MONEY! From what you can see, it seems like folks are just popping up web sites all over the place and the money simply comes rolling in.
But the money didn’t just come rolling in. Your bank account is still hurting and you aren’t rich yet. Your web site looks just like those other web sites you see making money. Your product is just like the products begin promoted by the other top earners in the same industry or company you’re with. But your results aren’t as good as theirs.
What Are You Missing?
Online Marketing is more than just throwing up a web site. “If you build it, they will come.” makes a great line in a movie but, as we have all experienced, it doesn’t seem to work that way in the real business world.
This article is designed to help you understand the importance of understanding and creating a sales funnel. Your goal is to get sales. You want people using your products or services and you want to build a team of people that want to build the business with you. It is critical to your success that you understand and implement each of these steps to make that happen.
Each of these steps is very important and if you are skipping any of these, you are cutting your chances of success with online marketing in a big way.
Step 1: Get Your Web Site.
This may be a simple replicated site that is put together by the company you are working with. For maximum impact, I highly recommend your own blog so that you can control your message, your branding, and build your own credibility. I see a lot of people rely solely on a company provided site. If that company goes through challenges or the site gets shut down, all your momentum gets stopped. When you have your own web site, you control the content, branding, image, etc… and can create and maintain your own marketing momentum.
Another simple option is to create a simple capture page that is linked to an autoresponder campaign. This brings me to the next step:
Step 2: Get an AutoResponder.
Your AutoResponder is a powerful tool. With your AutoResponder, you can create sales letters that explain your offer, demonstrate the value you bring, help you build rapport, and establish credibility in your industry. I highly recommend you get connected to an AutoResponder service and create your sales letters.
Then you are ready for your next step:
Step 3: Build Your Lists.
You have a web site. You have sales letters. Now you want to start focusing on building your list of prospects. You are going to be driving traffic to your site in the next step. What we are going to do now is make sure it is easy for people to join your list when they get to your blog, site, or capture page. Your AutoResponder service should make it very easy for you to get the code to add a subscription form to your blog or web site. Here is a video that shows you how we set up the capture form below on this blog.
You should also be able to quickly create a capture page you can begin promoting while you are working on your own web site.
As visitors to your site fill out the form to request your information, report, download, sample, etc… they are added to your database. Your AutoResponder can begin following up with your prospects and help convert them in to paying customers. And those customers are what your business needs!
Step 4: Get People To Your Web Site
NOW we get to the part where you start driving traffic to your web site, blog, capture page, etc… Setting up a web site gives you a place to present your information. Setting up your AutoResponder gave you a way to send more information and follow up with prospects who want to know more. But to get those visitors, you need to start driving traffic to your web site. How many ways are there to drive traffic to your web site?
- Online Text Ads
- Online Banner Ads
- Traffic Exchanges
- PPC Advertising
- Safelist Advertising
- Facebook Advertising
- Business Cards
- Networking Events
- Newspaper Advertising
- Window Letters On Your Vehicle
- Drop Cards
- Word of Mouth
- T-Shirts
- And Many Many More …
The key is to understand the process and set up your sales funnel to make the most of your advertising and promotional efforts. A good move is to integrate your TrafficWave account with any number of other lead page apps, forms, etc… via Zapier to automate the process even further.
We explained this process in this order to help you see how you will set up your sales funnel.
Once the sales funnel is set up, you will be focused on:
1) Advertising to get people to your web site, blog, or capture page.
2) Your web site, blog, or capture page has the subscription forms so that people can request more information from you, joining your list.
3) Your AutoResponder sends out your sales letters to follow up with your prospects, building your credibility, establishing rapport, and helping those prospects become comfortable with the idea of doing business with you.
4) As your prospects become more comfortable with you, they begin to purchase your products, use your services, and/or join your team.
If all you are doing is advertising a sales page, you are basing your success on the idea that someone will hit your web site and make a purchasing decision in that first visit. This hardly EVER happens! Think about your own habits. How often do you make a decision to purchase something based on your very first visit to a web site? Your prospects won’t do it, either. So give them an opportunity to get to know you better by joining your list. Creating your sales funnel is just a smart business move.
Is this a quick process? No! You will need to learn a few techniques and take the time to get your site set up, create your sales letters, add subscription forms, and begin your advertising campaigns. As you move forward, you will get better at it, become faster at it, and find yourself in the position of being able to generate leads online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
And THAT is when the process becomes a lot of fun! This is why we recommend that you never stop email marketing.

Thanks for sharing another extremely helpful post Brian!
You’ve shared so many excellent, and often overlooked points.
Like how, on a very first visit, especially to a sales page, the vast majority
of first time visitors, (typically) at least 99% of them, are not
initially in the buying mood!
So it would be counter productive and unwise, to try and sell
them right off the bat.
Instead, give them the opportunity to solve a
major problem, or issue they face, simply by providing, some type
of free problem solving, list building information.
Like you’ve done with this excellent blog post and your excellent, periodic
free informational webinars!Great job!

Hi, Robert and welcome aboard!
Be sure the co-op is something you are adding to your existing marketing rather than having the co-op be the only marketing you are doing.
Congrats on your 2 subscribers, so far!

This is a great article but people don’t know the power of auto responder. I have seen most of the affiliate don’t use AR to its fullest. They promote direct link all over the net but basically they should create an LCP to do it .. they can also earn money doing solo ads…
admin

Agreed! We see this over and over again where affiliates are promoting the use of the autoresponder service without actually using the autoresponder service to its potential. Imagine the increase in their success when they begin using this powerful system in all of their promotional and sales efforts!

Very good advice on how the process works. Thanks for helping out all marketers to see the ‘big’ picture. Disillusionment is one of the greatest contributors to failure in an online business. There are not very many people who will just buy anything from you. You must position yourself, your brand, your products. Offer plausible solutions to help your target audience reach their goals. Effective salesmanship is about build a long term relationship with your customers. Think about it. How many times do you shop the same store? Why? Why not shop the competition? In marketing terms these questions lead to answers that will help you see how your customers think. You can great insight into the buying process.
Thanks to the author for a opening our minds to the realities of marketing online.

A very Good and informative article, Brian. I think a lot of on line slip into the mistake of thinking and buying as a consumer rather than a business owner. Trafficwave, charges a LOW Flat Rate for Unlimited Lists and Campaigns and also gives you the opportunity to create an additional income source.

Thank you for this informative article. I feel autoresponders are way under used, esp. by offline companies. In discussions with “brick and mortar” business owners, I have found that very few utilize the power autoresponders provide. If you are wanting to earn income and just starting out, I would recommend you make an effort to promote autoresponders to businesses in your community. An awful lot of these businesses have never heard of autoresponders or do not have a clue about what they do. And autoresponders do many things but first and foremost, they keep the name of the business in front of the customer. And statistics prove that if you do everything right, you will still lose 10% of your customers every year due to things like the customer moves, dies, etc. So autoresponders cement your current customers to the business and breeds familiarity with new ones.
When discussing autoresponders with a potential buyer/user, ask they how they keep in touch with their customers. Ask if they send out notices like for birthdays, New Years and other national holidays. It is likely they do not. Then tell them you have an automated way to do all this and much more with autoresponders. Businesses are always looking for solutions to problems and keeping in touch is one of the top most neglected issues in most any business. If they send out a note or eCard on a customer’s birthday or a Happy New Year card, you put your business name in front of the customer and it helps in getting remembered. The main reason, I am certain, that not every business owner has an autoresponder already is that they do not know what they can do for that business.
By selling autoresponder services, you make money every month, year in and year out. It is not a hard sell. It just requires some explanation. Too, there is money in setting up an autoresponder for a business because someone needs to take the the time to set it up for the business and in years past, I have made hundreds of dollars in doing this PLUS I get the benefit of making monthly income. And until I discovered TrafficWave, I was pushing aweber which meant that over time, as the business grew, I would be priced out of business due to the high cost of aweber over TrafficWave. All in all, selling autoresponder services to local brick and mortar businesses is a great way to carve out an income for yourself! And TrafficWave is, hands down, the best autoresponder company to promote!
